best worst day

it was a dreary afternoon, but made better by plans to explore the island in ways they- erika collette jordan logan bryce and yours truly- never had.
this included the dole plantation, the buddhist temple and the rock island cafe.
in a car filled slightly above capacity, the adventure began, and was quickly stalled by north shore traffic due to surf comps.
about an hour and a half later, the group passed the dole plantation- the pouring rain was likely to make the maze a tad less enjoyable.
as crammed-in legs began to numb, the car finally made a stop in wahiawa
at higher ground
(the coffee shop from a few posts ago)

after some delightful smoothies, hot chocolate and british surf mags, the troops piled back into the car and headed for chinatown, which was almost entirely deserted at 4:30
and seemed almost like china-mexi-town

the adventure continued on to the rock island cafe (the only part of the original plan achieved) where the milkshakes were proven some of the best.

and after dinner, the true spontaneous adventure began. the stick-shift car driven by a stick-shift novice, barely missed a few innocent (well, maybe not) pedestrians in the first attempt out of the parking garage. after one more false start, the car made its way to the freeway, and on to the likelike.
where the clutch broke.
in the middle of the highway.
in the dark.
and in the rain
so we ran to the side of the road, and stood in the pouring rain in the deep hawaiian jungle. called AAA (thanks mom and dad!) and got a tow truck on the way.
and then handsome officer pablo appeared, with an enormous umbrella, flares, and a cozy cop car blasting some akon for the stranded youth to huddle in until the tow truck arrived.

two of the six went with the tow truck- in the car being towed, not the cab of the truck, all the way back to laie
since it was nearly impossible to fit the remaining four people in the back of a cop car with awkwardly placed butt-dents, another car came and brought them two by two to....
the fun factory.
yes, the fun factory.

then we waited in starbucks for a while
and then Rescue Roxanne appeared, and saved our sorry souls
