I know have already declared my love for the amazing city of Munich, but I feel it deserves another shout-out.
First off, my reasons for said love of said city
- It's beautiful
- It's calm
- It's clean
- There are musicians on every street corner
- They are good musicians
- There is gelato
- There is schnitzel
- There is apple strudel
- There's a cool old cemetery
- There are beautiful churches
- There are beautiful men ;)
- The hostel was big, clean and had private bathrooms
Our first day there, we just walked around the town. By the time we felt like heading home (to the hostel), we realized we'd been walking for 5 hours! We pulled out the map to see where we were, and how to get back, but somehow we ended up walking in the wrong direction, so it took us another hour to get home.
AMERICA, GERMANY AND KOSOVO
In my favorite restaurant that we frequented often for the apple strudel, there was one waiter who was there almost every time we were. The last night we ate there it was really late, about 11:45 pm, and everything was closing up. Blake and I were the only customers left in the restaurant; there were a couple others at the bar downstairs. The waiter started talking to us, and we found out he was from Kosovo. My brother had just been there, so we all started talking about it, and the waiter said that people from Kosovo love Americans for what we did for them a few years ago. In Kosovo they have a saying, "If an American comes, you wash his feet and then drink the water," and he said that if an American ever visited him he would sleep without bed and blankets so the American could. It was really neat to hear someone who not only wasn't badmouthing America, but had great love for it. And he promised us that if we go back to Munich, we'll all meet up for a drink. That was a good night.
All in all, there aren't a lot of specific reasons that I love Munich so much- it's not like a lot of other European cities full of cathedrals and museums, but it just feels good being there. Definitely somewhere I want to live someday.
