so we got on the bus, met an acquaintance who is now a friend, and otherwise had an uneventful journey.
we disembarked after seeing the greek place, hiked back a couple blocks and explored the area
which was an full of culinary delights
after weighing the options- greek, italian, thai, curry, mexican, chinese, vietnamese, we all returned to greek- leo's taverna
(on a sidenote- when we went inside the italian restaurant in downtown honolulu, an asian couple were behind the counter and an indian couple were ordering. ah globalization)
entering leo's truly felt like stepping out of honolulu into the doorway of our greek family
the traditional blue and white theme was everywhere, and the food pulled me right back (it's already been a year!)
pita bread, spanakopita, hummus and baclava absolutely to die for.
after this cultural delight, we hoped for some gelato
thanks to davis' iphone in SLC (again, ah globalization), we discovered that there was indeed one place to get gelato in waikiki, so we started walking
after walking for quite some time, we remembered menchie's frozen yogurt, and decided on that instead
i had chocolate mint, chocolate and orange yogurt, topped with nothing less than hot fudge (sugar free, of course. i'm trying to watch what i eat!), fruity pebbles, cookie dough (okay, i'm not watching that closely), strawberries and a banana slice. somehow, it was incredibly delicious.
we trekked on toward ala moana in search of some middle eastern soap
where we were happily mistaken for european sisters
actually went in tiffany's and harry winston and saw a canary diamond ring priced at 480,000 dollars
in hw, collette stunned the employees with this gem: "have you guys ever been robbed?"
we journeyed on, and found ourselves sitting on the floor of old navy
where a precocious employee asked us what we were doing and where we were from
"we go to school on north shore"
"oh like high school?"
outside, the sky displayed the most magnificent colours i've ever seen
with the sun setting, there were beautiful pinks and orange
and an hour later (as we were still waiting for the bus)
it was the deepest, richest, most royal blue imaginable
of course, the day ended with a bus wait and a bus ride with the crazy man who plays air bass
aloha!
